Surviving Myself A Journey from Suicidal to Happy

6Jun/1110

Records and labels and diagnoses, oh my!

--  Andy Grant, June 6, 2011

As a survivor of multiple suicide attempts I've left quite a trail of hospital records in my wake; records spanning three states actually.  One of the first steps to working on my book, Surviving Myself, was to get copies of those records.  Laws varied from state to state and one hospital I visited went out of business (is that a sign that they helped everyone or no one?) but I managed to get a nice pile of paperwork.  Reading it however proved more difficult.

  1. Excellent video Andy. I love the message.

  2. Awesome, Andy! It’s never easy looking back like that. Shows courage!

  3. Andy, I am so impressed with your open and honest sharing. You are a beacon!!

  4. Great Message Andy!! As a former High School Guidance Counselor..I often watched students so easily become their diagnosis. It became their crutch and they often checked out on any responsibility. I think diagnosis’s..are dangerous! I had a professor in College who was a psychiatrist and would NEVER diagnosis anyone for those reasons..He saw the potential in each person to be Amazing! He was one of a kind! And, Andy Grant so are you!! I applaud your honesty and courage!! Peace!

    • Thank you so much, JoAnne.
Sounds like a great professor. I’m sure there will soon be a diagnosis for those who over diagnose.

  5. Hey, Andy! I loooooove your website, your videos and your book plan! I was thinking… what about including shortly a few other stories from people who have been in the same place…? Maybe make some statistics as of how many of the survivors are actually having amazing lives right now! Just a few thoughts that popped up :) . I find what you are doing freakin’ important and potent!!! Love, Yana
