Surviving Myself A Journey from Suicidal to Happy

Selfish is Good

--Andy Grant, February 7, 2011

Selfishness comes up often when people are discussing suicide. I've heard many people say that suicide is the most selfish act possible. That has never made much sense to me. How is feeling miserable and depressed a selfish thing? Is wanting pain to stop selfish? I actually think most people aren't selfish enough. We put the needs and interests of others ahead of ourselves. I think if people were more selfish, they would not find themselves feeling depressed or suicidal. I'm referring to the most positive aspects of selfishness - the notion of putting yourself first. Making your feelings your priority. Doing all you can to increase your feelings of love, joy, and happiness.

It is good to feel good. I think there is nothing more important than that.

Enjoy,
